About the Item
A rare Ottoman-Turkish travelling shoe-shine box, the form known in Istanbul as the boyaci sandigi. Sturdy wood carcass clad in hand-worked brass, with glass-fronted panels inset with romantic figural prints, two domed side bins, original polish bottles with brass caps, brushes, small drawers and the characteristic brass shoe-last footrest. A working piece of street-craft history and a striking decorative object. Dimensions: H approx. 17 in (43 cm) at footrest; W approx. 28 in (71 cm); D approx. 8 in (20 cm) - approximate, from partial tape photos and comparable examples Identification confirmed against documented Turkish/Ottoman brass shoeshine boxes (cf. 19th-c.
